Stakeholders of the RFC BA and RFC AWB met in Trieste on 22-23 April 2026 for a joint RAG-TAG meeting, bringing together infrastructure managers, railway undertakings, terminals and public authorities. Hosted at the Port of Trieste, the meeting highlighted the strategic role of ports as key links between maritime and rail logistics chains, as well as the growing importance of cross-border cooperation. Discussions focused on major operational challenges, including infrastructure capacity constraints, extensive construction works and limited flexibility on cross-border sections.

Participants stressed that disruptions on one network quickly affect the entire corridor, underlining the need for better coordination. TCRs and persistent bottlenecks at border crossings were identified as key issues impacting performance, with stakeholders calling for improved planning, harmonised procedures and targeted joint actions. The meeting also addressed the upcoming European capacity regulation and the recent expansion of RFC BA with Hungary and Croatia, which opens new opportunities while increasing operational complexity. Participants agreed that closer cooperation and coordinated action will be essential to strengthening the competitiveness of rail freight in Europe. The next RAG-TAG meeting will take place on 28 October 2026 in Poland.
